BELOW IS THE HAMILTON SPECTATOR'S PROTEK ARTICLE FROM JULY 10, 2007

In September 2005, Mary (one of the partners) and I participated in the Scotiabank Waterfront Marathon, walking 22 km. We raised over $3500.00 for Leukemia and Lymphoma Research and had the time of our life. This was our first marathon but not
our last, I completed Ottawa in May 2006 and  plan to do Dublin in October.

During the race, we wore an emergency contact tag on our shoes in case of a medical emergency. My daughter was going to take pictures of us at the finish line, but missed us as we surprised all and finished earlier than expected. When we met up with her over an hour later, she had been crying believing I had taken ill and no one knew how to reach her. Little did she know, her number was on the contact tag on my shoe.

A short time later, while spending a wonderful weekend walking in Haliburton, at Betty’s (also a business partner) cottage, PROTEK and  MEC Enterprizes , were born.

We launched our product in January of this year. It is currently available from 15 Dell pharmacy stores. It can also be ordered from our website, www.getprotek.com.

The three PROTEK partners represent significant business acumen, Betty Repa, a retired professor from Mohawk College, Carole Terry, a retired Bell Canada middle manager and  Mary Patterson, who works for a Burlington Manufacturing Company. Mary and Carole are avid walkers and have each participated in three marathons. As mothers and grandmothers, we have experienced the value and safety of this product.

PROTEK is made of Velcro with a water resistant label. PROTEK is great for children, runners, walkers, cyclists, climbers, seniors, wanderers, developmentally challenged, golfers, campers and vacationers. Inside each tag is a label with space for a name, emergency contact number and critical medical information. The information should be completed with a permanent marker. PROTEK is useful for medical emergencies, or if someone is lost or missing. The information on the tag is critical in an emergency, for identification of those who are lost or injured and to quickly contact parents to reunite them with their child or to authorize medical treatment. Most children, runners and walkers, do not carry sufficient personal identification.

PROTEK can speak for your child when they can’t. For safety purposes, a child’s name should NOT be put on the label. Parents or guardians simply fill in the contact information. In high stress situations, such as being lost, a child may forget his/her telephone number or even their parent’s name.

If there are three reasons that one should purchase PROTEK, they are SAFETY, SECURITY, and PEACE OF MIND. It offers a parent the opportunity to be proactive around their own and their children’s safety.

PROTEK is a great form of advertising for any business. Your company name can be inserted in place of PROTEK, for a nominal cost. It is the ultimate marketing with your company name always visible. It is a perfect Community Relations opportunity to show your concern and caring for your community.

PROTEK also makes a great school fundraiser. It’s a peace of mind safety purchase that has no shelf life or food allergy concerns. It also gives an excellent return to the school.

PROTEK tags come in both adult and children’s sizes and designs and you can’t beat the price. Only $9.98 for a package of two or $4.99 for a single tag, taxes included.

Because we believe it is our individual and corporate responsibility to care for others, a portion of all sales goes to Cancer research and Women’s shelters.
